Cannabinoids and Liver CancerHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer‐associated mortality worldwide; however, only limited therapeutic treatments are currently available. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of cannabinoids as novel therapeutic targets in HCC. In addition, the mechanism underlying the effects of a synthetic cannabinoid, WIN55, 212‐2, on the BEL7402 HCC cell line was investigated. CaCannabidiol Inhibits Human Glioma Cell MigrationIn 2005, the British Journal of Pharmacology published a study evaluating the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to impair the migration of tumor cells and thus act as a potential antitumoral compound. The results of the study reinforce the evidence of antitumoral properties of CBD, demonstrating its ability to limit tumor invasion, although the mechanism of its pharmacological effects remains to be clarified. This antimigratory property, together with the known antiproliferative and apoptotic features of CBD, strengthen the evidence for its use as a potential antitumoral agent. (more…)

Anandamide Inhibits Breast Tumor-Induced AngiogenesisEndocannabinoid Anandamide and Breast Cancer – more evidence. This 2014 study out of Italy, published in the journal Translational Medicine, found that following anandamide treatment, MDA-MB-231 cells lose their ability to stimulate endothelial cells proliferation in vitro, due to a significant inhibition of all the pro-angiogenic factors produced by these cells. This finding adds another piece of evidence to the anti-tumor efficacy of anandamide in breast cancer. (more…)

Published in the British Journal of Cancer in 2006, these scientists reported ‘the first clinical study aimed at assessing cannabinoid antitumoral action, specifically a pilot phase I trial in which nine patients with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme were administered THC intratumoraly. The patients had previously failed standard therapy (surgery and radiotherapy) and had clear evidence of tumour progression’. (more…)
